Programme 2019

Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 August

Functional Scala training with John de Goes: Three days of learning functional programming with John de Goes in a five-star Fourteenth-Century castle, with the option to stay in the castle.

Saturday, 31 August

The Grand Hike: a large, organized group climb from Buttermere, through woods to Bleaberry Tarn, over the peaks of Red Pike, High Stile and High Crag to Hay Stacks and the delightfully-named Innominate Tarn, with a choice of return routes to get back for a quick drink before the bus leaves.

Sunday, 1 September

More and indoor activities: mountain biking, canoeing and the entire Lake District to explore on your own, while those recovering from Saturday's hike can attend the Scala Spree at the Rheged Centre

Monday, 2 September

First conference day, and dinner: two packed tracks of talks and workshops from the best speakers in the Scala community from around the world, followed by a three-course evening meal and the Eyjafjallajökull Lecture

Tuesday, 3 September

Second conference day, and boat trip: a second day of talks and workshops, followed by a new (optional) event for 2019 — we travel straight from the closing keynote to Pooley Bridge to depart by boat as the sun sets over Lake Ullswater, to finish the evening eating and drinking in the pubs of Glenridding

Wednesday, 4 September

Functional Frenzy workshops: an optional day of small, interactive, taught workshops of around ten people on a variety of different topics

Transport to and from Penrith will be available for all events.

We shall be announcing the full programme of 25 speakers gradually over the next few months!
